What would you do if you and your family were forced to go to a death camp just because of your religion? Even though you had done nothing wrong, you would be killed. That is exactly what happened to thousands of under the control of Adolf Hitler. In July, 1942 Jews the Treblinka death camp was established. Over 750,000 Holocaust victims were murdered there. On June 3, 1942 Jews in Belgium were forced to wear a Yellow Star of David. The Nazis enforced this new law to help them identify each Jew. In December 7, 1941 Japan attacked the U.S. at Pearl Harbor. This was also known as the Night and Fog Decree. Which event is guilty of the most crimes against humanity? (Holocaust Timeline, Wiernik, Humphrey)

On the quiet morning of Sunday, November 7, 1941,the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor Hawaii was attacked by the Japanese navy. This was a surprise attack. This attack was intended to reduce the U.S. military power in the pacific. The Japanese performed two aerial attack waves. A large amount of U.S. equipment was destroyed or damaged. (Carson)

The attacked wrecked eight U.S. navy battleships. It also destroyed 188 aircraft. The Japanese had only lost 29 aircraft and five midget submarines. Sadly, about 2,280 Americans were killed and about 1,170 were wounded. About 65 Japanese men were killed or wounded. (Dr. Scheina)

After the Pearl Harbor attack, the U.S. decided to go to war. Now they will join Word War Two. The three main allies in World War Two were known as the “Big Three.” The British Empire, the Soviet Union and the U.S. were all part of the “Big Three.” The axis powers included Japan, Italy and Germany. (Dr. Scheina, Carson)

After the occupation of Belgium, the German Nazis decided to restrict the civil rights of Jews. They confiscated their property and businesses, banned them from certain professions, and required Jews to wear a Yellow Star of David. Reinhard Heydrich was the one who recommended that the stars be warn. Jews were warned that if the Yellow Star of David was not warn on the front and back of their clothing, they would be shot and killed. This law was meant to isolate Jews from the rest of the population. (levy, Bard)

Every Jew who wore a Yellow Star of David were confined to Ghettos. Ghettos were places where Jews were forced to live. They were treated very harshly. One of the worst Ghettos was the Lodz Ghetto. This was in Poland and many Jews were targets of beatings, robberies and seizure of property. (Bard)

This star allowed Nazis to identify every Jew. Once they were identified, they would most likely be sent to a concentration camp. They would be deprived, starved, and eventually murdered. The security police said that the stars were “another step closer to the final solution.” The “Final Solution” is death to the Jews. (Humphrey)

Treblinka Camp was a German extermination camp in Poland. This camp was established in July, 1992. Unfortunately, around 750,000 Jews and other Holocaust victims were murdered there. About 2,000 of those people were Romani people. An even larger number of victims were Polish. (Wiernik)

Treblinka Camp was 600 meters by 200 meters and was part of the operation Reinhard. The camp was located 100 kilometer northeast from the Treblinka railroad station. Treblinka was organized in two sub divisions: Treblinka 1 and Treblinka 2. Treblinka 1 was further divided into two parts: the administration section and a receiving area. By the receiving area the sick, old and wounded were shot in the back of the head. After this terrifying murder, they would fall back in a ditch and burn. (Mccarthy, Stein)

Next to camp 1, there was an uphill path which lead directly to the gas chambers. Behind the chambers was a large pit where fires burned. The pit was one meter wide and twenty meters long. Rails were laid across the pit and the bodies of the gas victims were laid on them to burn. Gas chambers could kill 3oo people in two hours. The camp closed in 1943. When Himmler visited the camp in 1943, he decided to burn all the corpses to be sure that any traces of crimes would be gone. (Bulow, Wiernik, Mccarthy)

As you already know, the Holocaust was horrible and filled with crimes against humanity. Out of the three Holocaust events I have just explained, which one would you say is responsible for the most crimes against humanity? About 2,280 Americans were killed during the Pearl Harbor attack. Many of the Belgium Jews who were forced to wear a Yellow Star of David were confined to Ghettos where they were extremely mistreated. Around 750,000 Holocaust victims were murdered at Treblinka Camp. In my opinion Treblinka Camp obviously was the worst crime against humanity because so many people were murdered. Cassie,
You have done a fine job reporting your findings. I am impressed with your writing ability. The only thing that I missed seeing is your call to action. What do you think can be done so that these events never happen again?
